Many a times, an individual runs into problems because he or she fails to set goals for himself or herself. It is important to set academic goals at the beginning of your career in DLI. FORMULATING YOUR GOALS.
Goals can be either short term or long term in nature. For example, short term goal might be for you to set grades you want to earn in your courses and then work out a plan on how you will achieve the grades. Long term goals might be to come out with first class honours at the end of your programme.
FOUR STEPS TO SUCCESFUL GOAL PLANNING
1. identify your short term and long term goals.
2. Write them down .Describe circumstances that would convince you and others that you have achieved the goals.
3. Keep your list handy for future reference. For example, paste it by your bedside or reading table.
4. set SMART goals
S - SPECIFIC: When setting goals they should answer the specific questions of WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, and WHY.
M - MEASURABLE:  Your goals should be measurable. For example, you might want to raise your grade point.
A - ACHIEVABLE:  Make sure it is possible to achieve the goals you set.
R - REALISTIC:    You should make sure you have all the things you need to complete your goals {skills, resourses and time}
T - TIME BASED:    Setting a deadline helps to increase your sense of urgency and achievement much quicker.
